Just ahead of the International Premium Cigar and Pipe Retailers' Association trade show, in New Orleans, beginning on August 8, 2009, Tabacalera A. Fuente has released information presenting their Aged Selection lines. Below are highlights of a few of those lines, including the Fuente Fuente Opus X The Lost City-commemorating the fliming of Andy Garcia's movie of the same name, as well as a line commemorating the Cigar Family Charitable Foundation

 

After the harvest, the fresh green tobacco is hung in curing barns where their moisture is allowed to evaporate slowly. After over 6 weeks in the curing barn,the leaves gradually turn to a beautiful, rich shade of brown. The cured tobacco leaves are then fermented - after which they are aged for years before the Fuentes consider them ready for their finest cigars. Even though the cigars are made with aged tobacco, they have to
be aged again after skilled torcedors rolled them.

When the cigars are first made, they are in the embryonic stage in which their ultimate taste is still being developed. As they are aged, they go through the maturation. During the maturation, the filler, binder and wrapper leaves form a perfect unity and balance, and the taste of the combined tobaccos becomes even more enhanced. The cigars, which are aged for one year in an ideal environment, will taste far better than when they were first made. The taste of the cigar reaches its pinnacle as they are aged for longer years.

When you produce wine, you do not use aged grapes. You harvest grapes for that year’s wine. However, in case of cigar making, you use the tobacco, which has already been aged for many years. The year on the bottle of vintage wine signifies the year of the grape harvest. However, you cannot put the year of the tobacco harvest on the box of the cigars. There is a good chance that the filler,binder and wrapper leaves are all harvested in different years. The second band of Fuente Aged Selection signifies the year when the cigar was made. You can track how long these Fuente Aged Selection cigars have been aged since their production from the year on the second band. Please do not forget to age some of these vintage cigars even further, like fine wines, for added enjoyment in the future.

LOST CITY

In 2004,Andy Garcia began filming The Lost City (www.theLostCitytheMovie.com) and wanted to shoot one of the most memerable scenes of his movie at Chateau de la Fuente in July. Unfortunately, there was no tobacco plants growning at Chateau de la Fuente during that time because the tobacco plants are usually harvested in March.

In order to help Andy Garcia, Carlito Fuente planted tobacco at Chateau de la Fuente during summer time so that Andy could film The Lost City. After the movie was shot at Chateau de la Fuente, the tobacco plants were harvested and
have been aged. Carlito Fuente has created very special cigars from these 5-year old tobaccos: Fuente Fuente OpusX The Lost City. All cigars made with the tobaccos planted for The Lost City come with the black bands.

In addition, Carlito Fuente is releasing two rare, aged FFOX cigars in a tribute to Andy Garcia and The Lost City: Fuente Fuente OpusX Lancero and Love Affair which come with the red bands.

In the fall of 2009, the Fuente Fuente OpusX The Lost City cigars will be released worldwide. Each box will come with The Lost City DVD. The Lost City Andy Garcia starred and directed The Lost City (www.theLostCitytheMovie.com).

And when one asks about the picturesque painted rock scorpion colorfully stretched out across a green expanse of lawn, Carlito will tell you that Scorpio was the astrological birth sign of his grandfather Arturo, born on November 18th. Perhaps not by chance, this was also the date the very first boxes of Fuente Fuente OpusX were shipped to America.

Next to Scorpio is another symbol, Taurus the Bull, the astrological sign shared by Carlito and his father,Don Carlos. Both have birth dates only seven days apart, a unification of their spirit that embodies this enchanted land. Indeed, the stars were aligned when Chateau de la Fuente was created.

Certainly not the least important among the new Opus X offerings from Tabacalera A. Fuente, is the new 2009 line intended to benefit one of the company's greatest achievements, celebrating the graduation of the first graduating class of the high school at the Cigar Family Charitable Foundation.

Each cigar is packaged in a special coffin box that is imprinted with the name of the cigar
and the year of release. A total of 500 boxes will be shipped to retail tobacconists in November 2009.
